Beacon Hill Park has an important status as Mile "0", the western terminus of the 8,000 kilometre Trans-Canada Highway. Kite enthusiasts, paragliders and sailboarders can also take advantage of the open vista across the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Meandering footpaths offer long strolls among manicured and natural areas and features for the whole family to enjoy. In addition to the Garry oak ecosystem, an example of a threatened species is the Yellow Montane Violet, Viola praemorsa. A number of environmentally sensitive areas have been identified within the park and are protected through local, provincial and federal law to preserve these threatened and endangered species and ecosystems. Street parking remains available along Douglas Street, Cook Street and Dallas Road.īeacon Hill Park has an abundance of natural features and sensitive ecology throughout roughly 740,000 square metres of parkland.
Parking lots are open at Heywood Way, Circle Drive and Nursery Road. In September 2021, Bridge Way reopened to vehicles to improve access to the central washrooms for people with disabilities. Bridge Way is open to two-way traffic from Heywood Way to just east of Chestnut Row and is shared by vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.īridge Way was closed to vehicles in spring 2020 to increase space for physical distancing during the COVID-19 provincial state of emergency, which ended in summer 2021.Īrbutus Way and Chestnut Row remain as pedestrian/cycling routes and closed to vehicles, except for service vehicles.Ī total of 20 accessible parking stalls with new design and dimensions have been installed or upgraded in Beacon Hill Park, including two next to the central washrooms.
